We continue to take pride in being the world's largest democracy. India's democratic process is amazing. But when the numbers come out, the reality is scary. Gujarat has recently seen an average voter turnout of 50 to 60 percent. This means that almost half the population is not interested in electing their government. The counting of votes is tomorrow. The results will be out. The winning candidates will be celebrating. But what about the 50 percent who are sitting at home? This is a living example of Gujarat's very sick democracy. The party that wins will claim that the people have accepted them by a margin of two to three percent. But in reality, half the people have not voted. Is the Election Commission not responsible for this situation? Just appealing for 100 percent voting or giving advertisements. Why people are not going to vote, is it a deep survey? Do they not have faith in the candidates? It is a sad state of affairs.
