Panipat: Haryana Directorate of School Education has issued new instructions to inculcate the habit of reading newspapers among students in government schools. The letter issued by the education department states that reading newspapers is very important for the overall development of students as it develops general knowledge, language skills and critical thinking. ReadTrending Videos The directorate has directed all district education officers to make newspaper reading compulsory or encouraged in schools of their respective districts. Along with this, various educational activities should be organized in schools regularly so that students can connect with current events. Activities like daily or weekly newspaper reading sessions, current affairs quiz, debate competition, news analysis, essay writing competition and headline writing will be organized in schools as per the directive. Apart from this, emphasis has also been laid on today's news presentation, news board or wall magazine and formation of journalism or media club. The advertisement education department has clarified that the availability of English library in every school will ensure less number of students and less than one session of national and international newspapers.
