After West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath as the Chief Minister of Assam for the second consecutive term on Tuesday. Along with Sarma, 4 other MLAs were also sworn in as ministers. These 4 include a woman leader who has been an MLA for the last 25 years and was earlier in the Congress, but later she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Along with the BJP, which has formed the government for the third consecutive time in Assam, 1 leader each has been made a minister from 2 other allies. These allies are the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People's Front (BPF). Asom Gana Parishad President Atul Bora and Bodoland People's Front MLA Charan Boro took oath as ministers. Both these leaders have been ministers in the previous NDA-led BJP government in the state. Apart from this, former minister Ranjit Kumar Das has been made a candidate from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for the post of Assam Assembly Speaker. But the name of the new minister of Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is the most talked about, is also the only woman minister in the state.
