Guwahati: Himanta Biswa Sarma will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Assam for the second time on May 12. Union Minister J.P. Nadda on Sunday announced that Himanta Biswa Sarma has been elected as the leader of the NDA legislature party in Assam, paving the way for his second consecutive term as the Chief Minister. Nadda informed that eight BJP MLAs proposed Sarma's name. Earlier in the morning, the Assam BJP legislature party met to elect a new leader. Sarma's name was endorsed by Nadda as the central observer and Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini as the co-observer. Nadda informed that the alliance partners Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People's Front (BPF) also endorsed Sarma's name, with which he was unanimously elected as the leader of the NDA legislature party. Sarma and other leaders of the NDM will meet Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya later on Sunday at Lok Bhawan to stake claim to form the NDA government.
