India is planning one of its most ambitious railway infrastructure projects in the Himalayas, which could see the construction of the world's highest railway station. The proposed railway line connecting Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh to Leh in Ladakh will not only bring trains closer to the country's northern border, and will also set a world record. A railway station is expected to be constructed at a height of about 5,256 metres (17,244 ft) above sea level on the 489-kilometre-long Bilaspur-Manali-Leh railway line. If the proposed station in Ladakh is built at such a height, it will become the world's highest railway station. It will surpass China's Tanggula railway station, which currently holds the record for being located at a height of about 5,068 metres. According to a TOI report, the proposed railway line connecting Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh to Leh in Ladakh is expected to be built at a height of about 5,256 metres (17,244 ft) below the sea level.
