India Avoids Joint Press Conference with US at G7 Summit Due to Trump's Unpredictability

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump held a bilateral meeting during the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, in June. India deliberately avoided a joint press conference. According to government sources, the decision was taken out of an abundance of caution and keeping in mind the unpredictable nature of US President Donald Trump. Government sources told news agency PTI that many foreign delegations meeting Trump are always wary of his sudden and unexpected statements. As was also seen during his earlier meetings with the presidents of South Africa and Ukraine. For this reason, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) strategically opted for a limited media presence instead of a question-and-answer open press conference. This was also confirmed by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor.
