India Denies Linking Heavy Rainfall in Jammu to Country, Shares Water Info with Pakistan

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, there was heavy rainfall in Jammu and adjoining areas between 20 and 23 July 2026. This caused the water level in the Chenab River to rise. The Ministry said that this was a purely natural process and it is incorrect to link it to India. India also pointed out that Pakistan's Lahore-based Flood Forecasting Division had itself acknowledged in its warning issued on 22 July 2026 that heavy rains in the upper reaches had caused water to rise in the Marala Headworks. The warning also stated that the water level would fall as the rains subsided. The MEA stated that the water flow was not above the danger level, so no special flood warning was required. Despite this, India would continue to share necessary water-related information with Pakistan through diplomatic channels on humanitarian grounds.
