India Develops Indigenous Air Defense Missile System to Rival Russia's S-400

India is rapidly working on an indigenous long-range air defense missile system, which has been named Project Kusha. It is being developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). It is generally seen as a challenge to Russia's air defense system S-400. Although Moscow is establishing its role as a technical partner, not as a rival to India's project. This view of Moscow shows the changing nature of India-Russia defense relations. For many years the relationship between India and Russia was based solely on the sale of weapons and fighter jets. India has cleared that now it will meet its military needs on its own. This rule applies to everything from fighter jets, to their engines, to missile networks, to radar systems and air defense systems. With the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign, Russia acknowledges that the future of S-400 will not only include the sale of S-500s between the two countries, but also a major change in the next generation of weapons of India.
