India Eyes Stake Sale in Iran's Chabahar Port Amid US Sanctions Uncertainty

There are reports that India is planning to sell its stake in Iran's Chabahar Port soon. However, there has been no official word on this. In fact, India's exemption from US sanctions expires on Sunday, April 26. It is also being said that India is considering other measures to operate on Chabahar. In March, the Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee said that "recent developments" have cast a cloud over the future of the Chabahar Port, which is of vital and strategic importance to India. However, the committee welcomed that the Centre is "in touch" with all relevant parties to address the implications of these developments. The committee believes that Chabahar is a "vital and strategically important port" for India, as it provides access to Afghanistan and Central Asia. It is also preparing to sell its stake in the Chabahar Port, a proposed international north-south transport corridor, to an Iranian company, according to a Business Standard report.
