On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, protests were held in many parts of the country, including Delhi and Mumbai, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Opposition parties, student organizations, and youth organizations protested in Delhi, while hundreds of people gathered at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on the call of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). More than 1000 people were detained in Delhi. CJP will hold demonstrations in Delhi on 10 October. These demonstrations took place amid concerns being raised about changes in the electoral voter list and Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Demonstrations were also held in Ahmedabad, Lucknow, and Patna. AAP leaders Atishi, Sanjay Singh, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Sanjeev Jha, CPI (M) general secretary MA Baby, senior party leader Brinda Karat, CPI national secretary P. Sandosh Kumar, RJD leader Manoj Jha, social activist Yogendra Yadav, AISA president Neha Bora, DYF MP and former JNU students union president Rahim Jaiswal were among those detained by the police.
