India: State Election Commission Announces Schedule for By-Elections to Fill Vacant Panchayat Posts

According to the notification issued by the State Election Commission, the schedule for the by-election to 3922 vacant posts in the three-tier panchayats has been released. As per the notification issued by the State Election Commission, the process of the by-election will be held on 30 September. Polling will be held on 12 October. The results will be released after counting on 14 October. After the commission's notification, the district magistrates also issued a notification regarding the by-election on Saturday. The three-tier panchayat elections in the remaining 12 districts of the state, except Haridwar, were held last year. A large number of gram panchayat members, as well as the posts of gram pradhan and kshetra panchayat members, remained vacant. Later, even after the by-election, 3890 posts of gram panchayat members, 23 posts of gram pradhan and nine posts of kshetra panchayat member still remained vacant for various reasons. Meanwhile, the matter regarding the by-election to the 13 posts of gram panchayat member and three posts of gram pradhan of Haridwar district also went to the High Court. Now the State Election Commission has issued a notification for the by-election to the vacant posts from 10 am to 5 pm
