In the midst of political manoeuvring to secure a two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha, the government has announced that it will convene the monsoon session of Parliament between July 20 and August 13. The political slugfest over this session, which is to be held after the assembly elections in five states, has already begun as the government is preparing to reintroduce the Constitution Amendment Bill on women's reservation and delimitation. After six out of nine Shiv Sena UBT MPs defected to Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena and 20 TMC Lok Sabha MPs broke away to form a breakaway faction and support the BJP-NDA government, there are talks of a fresh delimitation bill in the monsoon session. There are also clear indications from the government that it will try to pass the delimitation bill if it reaches around the two-thirds majority mark. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Saturday while announcing the dates of the session on X Post that the President of India, Smt Draupadi Murmu, has recommended the monsoon session of Parliament to be held from July 20 to July 20, 2026.
