Nowadays, it has become easier to create a fake photo, video, or voice of anyone with the help of AI. Such fake content i.e. Deepfake is being used to defame people, cheat, spread rumors, and cybercrime. In view of this threat, the central government has increased the responsibility of monitoring and social media companies on AI-made content. The Ministry of Electronics and IT has informed that the changes made in the IT rules have been implemented from 10 February 2026. According to the new rules of the government, if someone creates a photo, video, audio, or other content from AI and it is legally acceptable, then it should be clear that it is AI-made content. Along with this, such technical data-metadata will also have to be kept, so that it can be identified. The purpose is to protect people from fraud. The government has made the biggest change in the time limit for removing content. If any illegal content is ordered by a court or the government, then the social media platform will not only have to deal with pornographic or fake cases within 36 hours.
