Indian Government Seeks Constitutional Amendment to Prolong Census Exercise

The government is of the view that the census exercise can be prolonged till 2029. Therefore, a way can be found through constitutional amendment to reorganise the constituencies and increase the seats. Under this, necessary changes can be made in the Delimitation Commission Act and the Women's Reservation Act. A final decision will be taken after discussions with all political parties. The government is set to bring an amendment bill in this session. Parliament can be extended or a special session can be called if needed.
