About 200 lawyers have submitted a memorandum to the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) in protest against the India Block march to the Supreme Court led by the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. These lawyers have demanded the SCBA to pass a resolution criticizing the political and mass march and demonstration outside the Supreme Court on October 12. They have said that if this is not stopped now, then other influential people will also show strength in the court by mobilizing the crowd. The lawyers have also recorded their SCBA membership numbers in the submitted memorandum. They say that it is a constitutional right of every citizen to go to court, but it should be done respecting the dignity and independence of the judiciary. Marching to the court with a crowd of thousands of supporters is an attempt to indirectly pressure the judges and it is against the rule of law. The lawyers said that Rahul Gandhi along with thousands of party workers and his supporters had filed a petition against the Election Commission of India.
