He said that only the two leaders were present at that meeting. He also did not know whether she had told the media about the merger nor had she read any concrete information about it. To a question on whether the option of merging secular, like-minded regional parties could be viable given the current political climate in India, he argued that the economic, political and social situation of the country was pathetic. He said that this was not the time to play political games and there was an urgent need to save the nation. He highlighted inflation, rising unemployment, rampant corruption and persistent leakage of documents as serious crises faced by the citizens. He said that the country has to consider whether it wants to continue with the internal strife or resolve these issues, and said that it was not the time to save the country's fragile social fabric.
