Indian Minister Criticizes Opposition Over GDP Growth Comments

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has criticised the opposition parties and former Finance Secretary Subhash Garg. He responded to Garg's comments on 7. 8 GDP growth while making a statement on Wednesday. He said that he does not know how to make a correct comparison. He is trying to mislead the people of India. According to India's revised GDP series, India's economy has actually grown by 7. 8 in the first quarter of 2026 and 27. Goyal has said that in this turbulent world, India is like an OCC in a desert. The country remains the fastest growing economy in the world's large economy. Further, the Union Minister said, "Critics can say whatever they want, but 7. 8 percent growth is a fact. When I see some opposition leaders on television and maybe you can include a former Finance Secretary or a former Reserve Bank Governor, both of whom I see in India or in the government, I feel that they have not been able to compare," he said.
