Indian NIA Operation Uncovered Alleged Plot Involving American and Ukrainian Nationals, Raising Geopolitical Concerns

A recent undercover operation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in India's northeast has not only put security agencies on alert, but has also fuelled talk of a possible geopolitical conspiracy across South Asia. In fact, the NIA's arrest of an American mercenary, Matthew VanDyke, and six Ukrainian nationals on March 13 has raised many questions. Are these just illegal activities or the beginning of a bigger game? On the other hand, after this development, former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's statement, which was once dismissed as an "exaggeration," is back in the news. A few months before she was removed from power amid a violent student uprising in 2024, Sheikh Hasina had warned of an alleged plot by a "white man." She had then claimed that a foreign power was working on a plan to create a "Christian state" by annexing parts of Bangladesh and Myanmar. The NIA did not pay much attention to the investigation into the alleged illegal activities of two Bangladeshi nationals, Matthew VanDyke and Matthew VanDyke, in the northeast region.
