Indian Opposition Leaders Detained Outside PM's Residence Amid Political Tensions

In Delhi, on Tuesday (July 21, 2026) evening, Congress MPs Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi along with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav were detained by the police while staging a sit-in outside the Prime Minister's residence, triggering a political furore. Purnia MP Pappu Yadav posted an attack on X. Pappu Yadav said, "Brutal arrest of all MPs including Rahul Gandhi ji, Kharge sahab, Priyanka didi... BJP's foundation will be shaken, dictator's farewell is fixed. Don't consider PM's residence as Rajmahal, he has got it to serve the people, Zulm Karoge then PM Modi ji will have to vacate the residence! Janta ka hai kisi ki baaputi nahi!" MP Pappu Yadav has warned of an agitation in another post on X itself. Along with this post, two pictures of Rahul Gandhi have been shared by Pappu Yadav. He writes, "Rahul ji will bring every drop of your blood to the Inquilab, corrupt government will be driven away by Rahul Gandhi ji.
