Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday objected to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's statement defending the Centre's proposed delimitation framework. He argued that even if Lok Sabha seats were increased equally in all states, the political impact would be skewed towards the larger states. Tharoor's response came after Naidu criticised the opposition for stalling the Constitution Amendment Bill in Parliament and said concerns about delimitation were unfounded. Explain that the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill 2026, introduced during a special session of Parliament in April, proposed to increase the strength of the Lok Sabha from 543 to 850, and to link delimitation to the 2011 census. It also proposed to proportionately increase the number of Lok Sabha seats by 50 per cent for all states. The bill failed to get the required two-thirds majority. Of the 528 members who voted, 298 supported the bill while 230 opposed it. Tharoor said the social media platform was less than 35 per cent of the votes cast.
