Indian Vice President's Historic Visit to Sri Lanka: Direct Pipeline Project Discussed

Colombo: Vice President of India, CP Radhakrishnan is on a historic visit to Sri Lanka. This is the first bilateral visit by an Indian Vice President to Sri Lanka, which marks a new chapter in the relationship. The Indian Vice President arrived in Colombo on Sunday morning with a high-level delegation. On the first day of his visit, he met with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. He informed that the project involves the United Arab Emirates and has been under discussion since 2023. The Indian Foreign Secretary stressed the need for an immediate start to the project. He cited the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which has disrupted energy supplies and disrupted global prices and fuel price hikes as the reason for Sri Lanka's power struggle.
