India's PM Modi Condemns Terrorism at SCO Summit, Targets Pakistan

On 1 September 2026, the stage of the 26th SCO summit in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on one side, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif of Pakistan on the other. President Xi Jinping of China, President Vladimir Putin of Russia, and President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran in the same room. Only then did PM Modi give a befitting reply to Pakistan on terrorism without naming it and reiterated India's commitment to Afghanistan. PM Modi made the strongest statement in his address on terrorism. PM Modi said, "Terrorism cannot be a strategic asset for anyone." This statement was directly aimed at Pakistan's old policy under which it has been supporting terrorist groups against India. PM Modi said, "Double standards cannot be tolerated in dealing with terrorism, everyone should raise their voice on this. We have to eliminate the entire mechanism of terrorism i.e. its funding, recruitment, radicalization and safe havens." According to PM Modi, "Pakistan's response to terrorism is a serious challenge."
