Iran Presents Plan to Open Strait of Hormuz Within 7 Days, Paving Way for Permanent Peace Talks

During the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), amid the ongoing tension in the Middle East for seven months and the global energy crisis, Iran has presented a new plan to the US to open the Strait of Hormuz within seven days. During the UN General Assembly in New York, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told the media that the proposal has been submitted to Washington through Qatari diplomatic channels. According to the Iranian proposal, if the US accepts Tehran's condition, the 7-day plan will be implemented from the next day. After this, the Strait of Hormuz will be fully opened for the movement of commercial and oil ships and the permanent peace agreement between the two countries can be renegotiated. According to Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, this plan largely corresponds to the format of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two countries on 17 June. Its first objective is to reopen the Strait of Hormuz so that its passage through the sea can be easily approved by the US administration. He said that the countdown will begin on the next day.
