Iran Re-Imposes Sanctions on Strait of Hormuz, Causing Indian Oil Tankers to Make U-Turn

Strait of Homuz: Several Indian oil tankers made a sudden U-turn in the Persian Gulf. The reason why it was not clear whether Hormuz was open or closed was misleading. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced a day earlier that Hormuz was "fully open" to commercial vessels for the rest of the ceasefire period, but just a day later, the Iranian military re-imposed sanctions on this vital waterway. This waterway supplies 20 percent of the world's oil. Bloomberg reported, citing maritime traffic data, that four Indian and two Greek ships failed to pass through this important waterway on Saturday morning. However, it is not known why these ships stopped their journey and returned. The Iranian military insists that it decided to re-impose these sanctions when the US said it would not lift its tight blockade on the Iranian port, which AP said "will return to its previous armed forces'control of Hormuz."
