Iran Sets Conditions for US to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

Iran has set several conditions for the US to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic. Mohammad Bagher Zolgadar, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said on Saturday that the US must first fully accept Iran's conditions before opening the strait. According to the New York Times, Zolgadar also demanded the US end its military presence around Iran, compensate for war damage, and release Iranian assets stashed abroad. The condition is to stop attacks on Iran's allies and threats against Iran. Iran and Oman are in talks over the future of the Strait of Hormuz. However, Hossein Mohebbi, a spokesman for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, said that the opening of the strait is not dependent on Iran-Oman talks. He said the US must first fully accept Iran's conditions. Iran's demands for the strait to be opened soon do not mean an immediate response to the US demands.
