The Israeli army has captured the 900-year-old Beaufort Fort and surrounding hills in southern Lebanon. Israeli officials released photos and videos on Sunday showing Israeli flags flying over the fort. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the army achieved this success after days of fierce fighting and airstrikes on nearby villages. According to Al Jazeera, this is Israel's largest incursion into Lebanon in the past 26 years. Beaufort Fort was a major military base for its army during the Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon from 1982 to 2000. The 700-meter-high fort overlooks large parts of Israel in addition to southern Lebanon. It is therefore considered of great military importance. Israel declared a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon on 17 April. Despite this, Israel continues to carry out attacks. According to experts, Hezbollah has inflicted maximum damage on its air defense unit IRGC on Sunday. President Trump claimed that the US Air Defense 1 has hit the Iranian air defense unit.
