B. Nagendra, Minister for Planning and Statistics in the cabinet of Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar in Karnataka has resigned from his post on Friday (August 28, 2026), to which R. Ashok, now Leader of Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly, has reacted. He said that the resignation of Minister B. Nagendra is the result of the ever-increasing public pressure and the agitation launched by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) against the alleged Valmiki Development Corporation scam. While announcing his resignation from the post of Minister, Congress leader B. Nagendra said that he decided to step down so that the Congress party and its leadership do not face discomfort over the alleged Valmiki Tribal Welfare Corporation scam. According to a report by news agency IANS, reacting to B. Nagendra's resignation, R. Ashok alleged that the Congress government was trying to save the minister from accountability from the beginning, but ultimately had to bow down to public anger.
