Karnataka MLA Vinay Kulkarni's Conviction Stayed, Membership Restored After High Court Ruling

Vinay Kulkarni was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by a special court for the murder of Dharwad zilla panchayat member Yogish Gowda. Kulkarni challenged this decision in the Karnataka High Court. After a lengthy trial, the High Court stayed his conviction and granted him interim bail. The Assembly Secretariat then issued an order restoring his membership. Copies of this notification have also been sent to the relevant authorities, including the Election Commission of India, the Chief Electoral Officer, and the Parliament Secretariat. The Karnataka Assembly Secretariat clarified that the disqualification order against Vinay Kulkarni was automatically set aside following the High Court order. On this basis, his MLA membership was restored. The High Court has stayed his conviction for the time being. This means that the final verdict is yet to come and the case will continue to be heard.
