Kerala's Ruling LDF Promises Pension Hike to Woo Middle and Poor Class Voters

Thiruvananthapuram: As Kerala gears up for the upcoming assembly elections, the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) has made a very important announcement to woo middle and poor class voters. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan-led alliance has promised that if voted back to power, the monthly welfare pension to over 6 million beneficiaries in the state will be increased to Rs 3,000. Strengthening the social security net Welfare schemes have always played a crucial role in Kerala politics. The LDF government has tried to strengthen its hold among the backward and economically weaker sections by significantly increasing the pensions currently given. The scheme will cover members of various welfare boards, including the elderly, widows and physically challenged persons. The party believes that this move will increase the purchasing power of the general public and ensure social security.
