Lawan Residents to Elect City Government for First Time

For the first time in Lawan, the post of chairperson for the municipal elections has been reserved for ST women. For the first time in the history of Lawan, the residents of the town will have the opportunity to elect their own city government. In the supplementary announcement of the 2023 state budget under the Rajasthan Municipal Act, 2009, Lawan was upgraded from a gram panchayat to a class IV municipality. After the formation of the Adhunik Nagarpalika, the then sarpanch Kamlesh Devi was appointed as the nominated chairperson and ward panchs as nominated councillors. Now with the announcement of the civic elections, Lawan will have a municipal board for the first time in a democratic way, in which 20 councillors will be elected from a total of 20 wards. After these elections, the municipal chairperson will be elected from among the elected councillors. A total of 10,080 voters will vote in Lawan. This time the rotation system is being made the basis in the reservation of the heads of the bodies. In the last election, instead of reserving the post of chairperson for a particular class, it has been given priority to other bodies.
