The petition has raised objections to the process of formation of the 16,000 sq km area, violation of the 74th Amendment to the Constitution and naming of the area (Indore after Ujjain). The petitioner, Advocate Akshat Pahadia, has said that the legal rules related to the formation of the metropolitan area have been ignored. Questions have been raised whether due consultation was taken from the local bodies for this? The advertisement includes the plan for the metropolitan area among the most ambitious urban development plans of Madhya Pradesh. The ongoing hearing on this in the High Court is being watched by all parties related to administrative, political and urban development. It is a very important plan not only for Ujjain and Indore but for the entire state in many ways. The population of the proposed metropolitan area will benefit from it at many levels. The estimated population to be included in this is stated to be 75.34 lakhs. The plan has been outlined to be developed in four phases. The metropolitan area of Indore-Ujjain, Dewas-Dharlam and Shajalpur-Ujjjain has been notified by the Housing Department.
