Maharashtra Assembly Debates Heavy Rains, Climate Change Amid Waterlogging and Loss of Life

The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Wednesday witnessed a heated debate between the ruling party and the opposition over the heavy rains and the situation arising out of it. Speaker Rahul Narvekar and Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray also engaged in a heated exchange. The opposition protested in the house over the postponement of a discussion on the issue of rain and waterlogging. Opposition members said that the continuous heavy rains, waterlogging and loss of lives in the state is the most serious issue, so it should be discussed immediately. Speaker Rahul Narvekar said that a short-term discussion on this subject will be held on Thursday. During the discussion, the speaker said that such a situation is being created due to climate change and this form of nature cannot be controlled. Aditya Thackeray questioned whether mangroves and deforestation will also be discussed, or it will also be postponed as an'Act of God '.
