Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was embroiled in a fresh political controversy on Saturday (July 25). A video that went viral on social media showed her pushing a policewoman on Kolkata Police duty. However, the veracity of this video could not be independently verified. The incident is from the Padmapukur area. The police arrived to disperse the supporters after the Calcutta High Court denied permission to the Mamata Banerjee faction's Trinamool Chhatra Parishad for a proposed march to protest against the NEET paper leak. The TMCP had planned to take out a march from Padmapukur to Moulali via CIT Road. Party leaders claim that the Kolkata Police had earlier given permission, but later cancelled it citing violence during a student protest by left-wing organisations. According to TMC leaders, on Saturday, the police emailed the cancellation of the permission for the march. The party then approached the Calcutta High Court, but the special court refused to grant relief.
