Manchester City Rejects Barcelona's £38.5 Million Bid for Rodri

As per the latest reports from BBC, Manchester City have rejected Barcelona’s opening bid for Rodri. Barcelona offered £38.5 million on Friday and Manchester City have rejected the bid. They are prepared to sell, but only for a figure of more than £60 million. Rodri who will turn 30 soon and has just one year left on his City contract. Since joining from Atlético Madrid in 2019 he’s been central to everything Manchester City have won with close to 200 matches and plenty of trophies and that Champions League in 2023. Last month he captained Spain to the World Cup and walked away with the Golden Ball. Real Madrid looked like the favourites for a while but Rodri did not want to go and despite discussions he had his reasons and declined the offer. Barcelona have now moved in front after receiving Rodri’s permission to negotiate with Manchester City. Rodri has already spoken to Hansi Flick and Deco, and personal terms are understood to be agreed. With Frenkie de Jong out for a long spell, Barcelona need a proven midfielder who can control games. Rodri can fill in that role perfectly. They paid a high fee for him and they are not about to undervalue one of the best midfielders in Europe just because his contract is going to end. City have already spent big this summer with the record move for Elliot Anderson and they will not want to give Rodri away at a lesser price. Spain captain Rodri is currently recovering from minor back surgery and will miss the start of pre-season, so the timing of any deal could still shift. Barcelona have been told that the first offer was nowhere near enough. If they want Rodri before the window shuts, they will have to come back with a lot more money. The Spanish player has expressed a lot of interest to join Barcelona, but the only thing that is causing the delay is the fee. Barcelona will need to come back with a stronger bid to get him. He has a year left with Manchester City before his contract expires.
