Manipur Police have arrested one person following an alleged attempt to attack Art, Culture and Tourism Minister Khuraijam Loken during his visit to Wangoi on Sunday. The accused, identified as Longjam Achouba of Wangoi Longjam Leikai, was arrested after an aide accompanying the minister lodged a complaint at Wangoi police station. The complaint alleged that a group of people attempted to pelt the minister’s convoy with stones. The incident occurred around 10.30 am while Loken, who represents the Wangoi Assembly constituency, was inspecting local infrastructure projects, including roads and drainage systems. According to reports, a crowd gathered to block his entry into the area, with demonstrators raising concerns over alleged deficiencies at the Wangoi Community Health Centre. The minister’s security personnel intervened during the confrontation, and his personal security officer moved to protect him. No injuries were reported. The Manipur unit of the National People’s Party (NPP) condemned the incident in a statement, describing the confrontation as an act of political intolerance. The party said violence and intimidation had no place in a democratic society and urged residents to maintain public order and resolve local disputes through peaceful dialogue.
