The Manipur’s underground armed group, Kangleipak Communist Party – Military Council Progressive (KCP-MC-P), has claimed responsibility for the bomb attack inside the Manipur University (MU) complex. In a press release on Monday, the KCP-MC-P issued a directive for Vice-Chancellor Naorem Loken, Registrar Premjit Meitei, and Hidam Ajit Meitei, who is accused of working under the patronage of the VC, to surrender to the party within two days. The outfit stated that Manipur University is under its scanner, designating the campus a “red zone,” while alleging corrupt practices related to appointments to various posts within the university. The VC alone has been accused of collecting over Rs 40 crore in recent years through dishonest means. According to the statement, cadres of the party’s “Red Army” lobbed bombs from beyond the university boundary wall. The device exploded between two residential quarters near the Manipuri Department of MU on April 4 at approximately 7:30 PM. The explosion occurred on the northern side of Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai. No casualties or injuries were reported. Following the blast, the police registered a case and are investigating to apprehend those involved in the incident.
