MDMK Ends Alliance with DMK After 9 Years

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) has officially ended its 9-year-old alliance with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK ).The decision was taken at the party's general council meeting today. However, the MDMK is yet to formally announce its entry into the ruling TVK-led front, but there are clear signs of this in the political corridors. In the resolutions passed at its general council meeting, the MDMK welcomed Chief Minister Joseph Vijay's government. The party also urged the new government to stick to its key poll promises, including providing corruption-free administration and protecting Tamil Nadu's rights on issues like Mekedatu dam project. However, the party's resolutions make no direct mention of joining the TVK alliance, even as all indications point to the exit of the MDMK from the alliance.
