Mehsana's Historic Election: Over 425 Candidates Vie for Seats in Newly Formed Municipal Corporation

Mehsana: A new chapter is about to begin in the political history of Mehsana. For the first time in the history of Mehsana, after the municipality was dissolved and now came into existence as a'Municipal Corporation ', there is a lot of excitement in the city's politics. There is so much enthusiasm at the local level about this historic election that more than 425 candidates have filed their nominations for 52 seats in a total of 13 wards. Statistically, on an average, 8 candidates have vied for a ticket for every single seat. The battle between the former corporators and the leaders of the newly merged areas: In the post-bifurcation process, there has been great enthusiasm among all sections from former corporators to ambitious youth. About 40 percent of the former corporators of the previous municipality have again staked claim to the reins of power. On the other hand, the local leaders and youth workers of the 24 newly incorporated villages in the delimitation of the corporation have also become active in the internal competition of the old voters to get tickets for the new representation in the corporation.
