Modi and Trump Meet Ahead of G7 Summit, Discuss Strengthening International Solidarity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump met on Tuesday (16 June 2026) ahead of an outreach session of the G7 Summit in Evian, France. The leaders shook hands and had a brief conversation ahead of the G7 session on'Building New Partnerships and Strengthening International Solidarity '. Amid ongoing tensions in bilateral ties, this was the first face-to-face meeting of the two leaders in 16 months. PM Modi and Trump appeared to warmly shake hands and then had a brief conversation. The two leaders have a bilateral meeting scheduled for Wednesday (17 June 2026) on the sidelines of the summit. This was Modi and Trump's first meeting since the prime minister flew to Washington to meet the US president in February last year. The two leaders are expected to discuss all aspects of the relationship, including the ongoing negotiations for a bilateral trade deal and steps to enhance defence cooperation, during their meeting on Wednesday. PM Modi's visit to Washington in February could prove to be a significant step forward in the bilateral trade agreement.
