Mumbai's Torrential Rains Claim Two Lives, Government Under Fire

The incessant torrential rains in Mumbai for the past 48 hours have severely affected life. The continuous accidents that have come to light in the midst of heavy rains have now taken a political colour. The death of a student after a tree fell on a school van in Chembur two days ago. The death of 60-year-old Aslam Shaikh after falling into an open manhole in Chandivali area of Sakinaka has brought the government and the administration under fire. The matter was raised forcefully in the Maharashtra assembly on Thursday. The opposition questioned the functioning of the government and the BMC, while the government also assured strict action against the culprits. The assembly speaker has given instructions to submit a detailed report of the whole matter by the evening. The state government has also ordered a probe into the entire matter. Congress leader Nana Patole has said that the government is only indulging in politics instead of attacking the people.
