Murugan's offer to resign from the Union Council of Ministers and Rajya Sabha membership has rekindled speculation of a major reshuffle in the Modi cabinet. Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs L. Murugan has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to relieve him of his ministerial post and allow him to give up his Rajya Sabha membership. He said he wants to fully engage in organisational work to strengthen the Bharatiya Janata Party in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Murugan said he wants to return to grassroots politics and work closely with party workers in Tamil Nadu. Referring to PM Modi's recent visit to Tamil Nadu, Murugan said the affection and enthusiasm he saw among the public during this time has strengthened his belief that the BJP can perform better in the state. He committed to dedicating all his time and energy to preparing for the next Lok Sabha elections. This is the third time Murugan has resigned from the Rajya Sabha.
