Comedian Kapil Sharma is set to return with the fifth season of his hit non-fiction series The Great Indian Kapil Show, as Netflix officially renewed the show during its India slate announcement event on Tuesday. The announcement marks the continuation of Netflix’s collaboration with Sharma after four successful seasons on the platform. Since its debut, The Great Indian Kapil Show has grown into one of Netflix India’s most-watched non-fiction titles, becoming a regular destination for celebrity interviews, comedy sketches and recurring characters. Speaking at the event, Netflix India chief Monika Shergill expressed excitement about the milestone season. “It’s the first fifth that we are doing and we are really excited for it," she said, as per PTI, highlighting how rare it is for a non-fiction series to reach this stage on streaming. Kapil Sharma took the stage with the show’s core ensemble, including Archana Puran Singh, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Sunil Grover, Krushna Abhishek and Kiku Sharda. During the event, Sidhu made a light-hearted remark, saying that Kapil Sharma, Sunil Grover, Krushna Abhishek and Kiku Sharda deserved to be honoured with the Padma Shri for their contribution to Indian comedy. He also jokingly referred to the infamous mid-flight fallout between Kapil and Sunil Grover from years ago, taking a playful dig at the incident that once kept them apart creatively. The mood stayed celebratory throughout the announcement. Sunil Grover recreated the viral “baby slowly, slowly" song that recently caught attention when he sang it with Priyanka Chopra during her appearance on the show. The moment quickly turned into an impromptu jig as the entire cast joined in, drawing loud cheers from those present. Netflix said the upcoming season will continue to build on what it described as Kapil Sharma’s ever-expanding “masti-verse". Viewers can expect fresh sketches, new celebrity guests and the return of fan-favourite characters that have become central to the show’s identity. The Great Indian Kapil Show first premiered on Netflix in March 2024 and has since hosted a wide range of guests from Bollywood, sports and music. With a fifth season now officially on the way, the series continues to strengthen its position as one of Netflix India’s most consistent and popular entertainment offerings.
