The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Tuesday announced the cancellation of the NEET UG 2026 examination held on May 3, citing findings reviewed jointly with central authorities and investigative inputs shared by law enforcement agencies. The agency had earlier referred the matter on May 8 to central agencies for independent verification and appropriate action, reiterating its commitment to ensuring fair, secure and credible conduct of national-level examinations. Following approval from the Government of India, the NTA said the examination will now be re-conducted on dates to be announced separately. It added that the decision was taken to ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of the examination system. In a post on X, the agency said registration data, candidature details and examination centre preferences from the May 2026 cycle will be carried forward to the re-conduct NEET. It clarified that there will be no fresh registration and no additional examination fee. It also stated that fees already paid will be refunded, and the exam will be re-conducted using internal resources. Further details, including the revised examination schedule and re-issuance of admit cards, will be notified through official channels. Candidates, parents and other stakeholders have been advised to follow official updates regarding the rescheduled examination. The development comes amid political reactions over alleged irregularities. Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge had earlier criticised the Centre over the issue, alleging concerns around the examination process and questioning the conduct of the system.
