'One Nation One Election' Could Boost Economy: BJP MP Prem Prakash Chaudhary

BJP MP Prem Prakash Chaudhary, who is the chairperson of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on One Nation One Election, claimed that the implementation of the policy could have a major positive impact on the country's economy. He said at an event in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on Wednesday that the introduction of this system could save about ₹7 lakh crore and increase the country's GDP growth rate by about 1.60%. He also said that there are plans to integrate panchayat and municipal elections in the next phase with this structure, not only with the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. He claimed that the Lok Sabha and assembly elections would be held together, as recommended by a committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind. Then there is also a proposal to bring panchayat and municipal elections in a phased manner within 100 days. Notably, the 129th Constitution Amendment Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha in December 2024. The proposal is already under discussion in the JPC. There are several political parties in the 39-member Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
