Chandigarh: Political heat reached its peak in Chandigarh today over the suspicious death of Punjab State Warehouse Corporation District Manager (DM) Dr. Gagandeep Singh Randhawa. The roads of Chandigarh turned into a battlefield as opposition parties upped the ante against the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab. Thousands of Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP workers and leaders marched to gherao the residence of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Meanwhile, police convoys deployed to maintain security had a tough time stopping them. The situation worsened when agitated protesters tried to move ahead by breaking barricades set up by the police. Police used water cannons to disperse the crowd, leading to a tense atmosphere. Opposition leaders alleged that the death of the DM was the handiwork of the ruling party leaders and demanded immediate arrest of Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar.
