Pakistan PM Calls for National Unity and Peace Amid Tensions with India

On the occasion of Pakistan's 80th Independence Day, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif called for national unity, peace, and economic progress. However, in his Independence Day message, he targeted India, saying that Pakistan wants peace, but its desire should not be construed as weakness. Shahbaz Sharif said that we do not want war, we want peace. But the desire for peace should not be construed as weakness. Referring to the four-day military conflict with India last year, Sharif said that Pakistan is committed to protecting its national interests, including its right to water resources. He said that Pakistan will continue to play its role as a responsible nation and a stabilizing force for regional and global peace. Operation Sindoor was also mentioned. India launched Operation Sindoor on 7 May 2025 in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. 26 civilians were killed in the attack in Pahalgam. Operation Sindoor and Pakistan's cross-border drone strikes and drone strikes targeted Indian military installations.
