Police fired tear gas and live rounds at protesters in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday. The clashes took place during a protest against the suspension of the provincial government led by jailed former prime minister Imran Khan's party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). According to Reuters, the worst violence occurred in the Bara area, some 15 kilometers from Peshawar, where five people were injured. Police have detained 50 people. They will be charged with terrorism and subversion for damaging government property and disturbing law and order. A police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the protesters set fire to the National Database and Registration Authority centre in Bara. PTI Information Secretary Ikram Khatana claimed that unknown people set fire to and attacked nearby offices. The Pakistan government suspended the provincial government citing deterioration of law and order and increase in terrorist attacks. President Asif Ali Zardari issued a proclamation under Article 232 of the Constitution (1) for causing extraordinary danger to life and property.
