Pakistan, which is going through a financial crisis, has now begged the United States. Pakistan's Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has requested US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Besant to provide a $10 billion exchange stabilization support facility to strengthen the country's economy. Pakistani newspaper Dawn reported on Wednesday (July 22, 2026) that Pakistan's embassy in Washington has confirmed this. However, the embassy has not shared any additional information in this regard. The US Treasury has not responded. According to an official statement issued by the embassy, Aurangzeb has sought US support for Pakistan's "Road-to-Market" strategy based on better access to international capital markets, increased forex reserves, and an improvement in the country's "sovereign credit rating." The US provides this facility through the Exchange Stabilization Fund. It includes arrangements such as currency exchange, financial guarantees, and loans. Pakistan's Road-to-Market Plan cites foreign exchange markets and Forex reports that Pakistan's foreign reserves have been restored.
