Pakistan's Islamabad High Court Orders Release of Imran Khan and Wife Bushra Bibi from Solitary Confinement

A high court in Pakistan has issued a landmark order for former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the jail administration not to keep the two in solitary confinement and to provide them with all facilities under the jail rules. The 73-year-old cricketer-turned-politician and his wife Bushra Bibi are currently lodged in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. Both are serving sentences in corruption and related cases. Justice Khadim Hussain Somroo gave this order while considering the petitions filed against the alleged solitary confinement of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi as maintainable. The court directed the jail administration to allow Imran Khan's family members to meet him as per the jail rules. Also, arrangements should be made for phone calls to his sons. The court also said that Imran Khan should be provided with newspapers, books and necessary medical facilities daily. The Adiala High Court has directed the jail superintendent to ensure compliance of the orders of Imran Ali Khan and his daughter Mumma Khan within 15 days.
