Parliament on Monday witnessed a political slugfest over the Lok Pariksha (Amendment) Bill. While the government was preparing to table the amended bill against paper leaks, the opposition reached Parliament with a strategy to corner the government on the issue of police action and lathicharge on students. Proceedings in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were repeatedly disrupted due to the day-long ruckus and no substantive discussion could be held eventually. Parliament proceedings had started from around 10 am. Meanwhile, a meeting of opposition parties was held in the Parliament House complex. It was decided in the meeting that a strong protest would be held against Home Minister Amit Shah over the police action and alleged lathicharge on students during the'Parliament Chalo'protest. Around 2 pm, several prominent leaders of the opposition, including Congress MPs Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, gathered near the Old Parliament House (Samvidhan Sadan). Meanwhile, opposition MPs got information that Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan would enter the Parliament from the Makara Gate in front of the Old Parliament House. As soon as they got the information, Priyanka reached the Education Minister's residence.
